It bears the production number S5250, the mark of J. E. Caldwell and Sterling. The soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing. This large attractive bowl has an applied floral die rolled rim and it sits on a large pedestal foot with a crescent die rolled rim. The bowl rim has a partial maker′s mark, which appears to be either an E or an F and a K with a device, possibly a leopard′s head, in between. We do not recall ever seeing a maker′s mark on an applied part on American silver. It is common on English silver. This spectacular bowl is 8 3/4" in diameter for the bowl, 5 1/2" in diamete3r for the base, 7 5/8" tall and weighs 612 grams or 19.6 ozs. Troy. The bowl has an ornate, period monogram: EH.
