Screaming Art Deco!
In juxtaposition to our previous blog about Repousse, we have chosen a different style – Art Deco! Some love it, and some just don’t quite get it. Maybe they didn’t grow up being greeted by an undeniable AD icon at breakfast every morning. Seeing that sleek, streamlined, chrome toaster with a black and white electric umbilical cord left an undeniable impression on many of us.
So, check this out. We have a new, screaming symbol of AD in our inventory, a silver & enamel octagonal napkin ring made by the International Silver Co., c.1935. The striking red and black enamel and silver designs and speak for themselves, that is, if you speak Art Deco.
Surprise us, show us something better. We know the Napkin Ring isn’t the best Art Deco piece extant. A better example should be relatively easy to find. Remember, bigger isn’t always better.

Repousse Sterling Silver: All Kirked Up
New Find
We found this mysterious goblet which became all the more interesting upon discovering its origins. The design is based upon the Daruma doll which is seen as a symbol of perseverance and good luck in Japanese culture, making it a popular gift of encouragement.
This goblet was crafted and designed by the noted American silversmith Jaclyn Davidson.
This special goblet is available for sale on our web-site http://berrycom.com/index.php?menu=product_info&type=17&all

Beyond Polishing?!
This Print (And many MORE) is available from our good frieds at http://printspast.com/
Times are changing, ways are changing, and the difficulty that we are coming across is that our devoted customers are complaining that their children don’t care enough about their life time collections of silver. The concern is keeping silver clean… and we do understand. Who has enough time to polish silver, or who has a house keeper to do the same, someone who needs to be educated enough not to over polish or damage a valuable heirloom?
There is next to no time in the busy schedule of most of our customers to spend caring for their silver. All this is understandable there is no need to argue and good luck keeping up with the task of keeping silver looking good. But, with the availability of excellent silver care products from Haggerty’s, the myth of the need to spend too much time in caring for your silver is easily dispelled. Gone are the days when polishing your silver with Wright’s silver cream was a day of drudgery.
There are some things that transcend generations and make an object so much more than a mere piece of metal or a $ figure. It takes the story of a person who took care of this or that item to impart a personality to be appreciated by succeeding generations. The person whose life was involved with the item will be remembered and the care given to the item will give meaning beyond the intrinsic value of the item, adding an existential feeling, the feeling of appreciation of history, and love of humanity and family roots. What did this person bring to our culture, how did he deal with the similar problems, that seem to repeat themselves generation after generation?
The difficulty lies not with the time spent in caring for your silver, but in caring for your silver as a family heirloom, an heirloom that has history and meaning. The best way to keep the history alive is to keep a record of all the information available on each piece or set in your possession so that the history of the pieces will not be lost and future generations will, at least, have a chance to learn to appreciate family heirlooms for all that they are worth.

Welcome to our Blog and Happy New Year
Dear Customers, Silver Dealers, Jewelers, Miners, and the entire Antique Silver Community,
I am happy to start this Blog with a very positive message. In the beginning of this New Year and New Decade, I encourage everyone to be positive about the future and to look forward with anticipation to all of the new opportunities and adventures that are on the horizon. My Russian wife beleives in the tradition that the tone for the upcoming year will be set by the attitude expressed from the outset. In this I concur and encourage everyone else to do likewise. We are starting, this, our first blog ,not having any real idea of how to proceed. We hope that this blog will be of mutual benefit to everyone and encourage anyone to participate, either in the current topic or with the addition of a new subject, area of interest or idea.
Happy New Year,
