American Colonial oval salver or large teapot stand, c.1760 maker′s mark IS, in a rounded corner rectangular punch. Candidates for the salver′s maker would be John Sarrazin of Charleston or Joseph Smith of Boston, although this may be a little early for Smith. It is unlikely English, as there are no signs of any removals of marks and the mark is single struck. Most duty dodgers have triple struck or even quadruple struck maker′s marks. The salver has an applied beaded rin and nicelt detailed ball and claw feet. Weighing 380 grams or 12.2 ozs, this desirable, early salver is 9 5/8" long, 7 7/8" wide and 1" tall.
