American sterling silver Figural Cherub goblets, pair, by Gorham Silversmiths, date marked for 1874.
These fabulous goblets each have gilt, applied die rolled bands of sea life motif Cherub figures on a matte finished, bright cut engraved backgrounds.
The large, bellied bodies sit on flared pedestal bases, each being 5 5/8" tall, 3 5/8" in diameter, 3 1/8" in diameter at the base, and the pair weigh a total of 517 grams or 16.6 ozs. Troy.
Monogrammed as described above, the soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing. The interior of each goblet retains its original gilding.
The excellent original condition and clear detail, with no removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
Each is clearly marked, under the body, STERLING,the G date mark for 1874, with the Gorham Lion Anchor G mark, and the pattern number 825. The underside of each pedestal has an unusual Baily & Co. script retailer′s mark.
