Pair English silver sauce or gravy boat with oval bodies having shaped rims, leaf-capped scroll handles, each with three feet with shell joins, made George Ibbot having a full set of London Hallmarks for 1762, early George III. Inscribed ′Barnard′s Inn/[family crest]′ and ′Johannes Baines. Arm. Prin./D. D/MDCCCXXII′ (1822). 19.6 oz.T., 5 x 7.5 x 3.75in. Barnard′s Inn is located in Holborn, London. It dates at least to the mid 13th century and is currently the home of Gresham College. The Inn is also mentioned in Charles Dickens′ Great Expectations in chapter 21. Inscribed as described above, the excellent original condition, with no removals, repairs or alterations, makes this an especially attractive offering. The soft, warm, original antique finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
