American coin silver Egyptian Revival napkin ring c.1875 having a period script monogram: MS.
The engine turned body has a large, central cartouche flanked by two Chimera on ramps, each with a paw touching the cartouche, which rests upon a lion mask. Sitting on a lintel atop the cartouche is a wonderfully detailed Sphinx.
The engine turned lined background is nicely contrasted with the narrow, plain shiny rims.
Unmarked, but guaranteed to be as represented, this most special napkin ring is 1 7/8" in diameter, 1 3/4" tall and weighs 53 grams or 1.7 ozs. Troy.
Monogrammed as described above, the soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
