American coin silver child′s cup or mug in an ornate design by Gale Wood and Hughes of New York City. c.1841. This delightful cup has an engraved band of wide decorations along the base in the Oriental style, similar to Polhemus′ oriental pattern, introduces almost 20 years after the cup was made. The rim has as applied beaded border and the body has a large floral, scroll and foliate cartouche containing the inscription: Theodore A. Wright Jany. 2nd 1841. Inscribed as described above, the soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing. The excellent original condition and clear detail, with no removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
