American sterling silver pedestal based centerpiece bowl by Johann Rudolph Wendt made for Ball Black and Company, both of New York City, c.1860. This wonderful figural centerpiece bowl has a nicely detailed, cast squirrel on top of each reverse C scroll split handle and applied and cast scroll and Wild Rose bowl edges, with one side of the bowl having an ornate, period monogram: W. The large oval bowl sits on a conforming pedestal base, with the maker′s and retailer′s marks being on the bottom of the bowl inside the pedestal. Ball Black and Company were the leading New York Retailers of their day and Wendt had his factory on the floors above the Ball Black showrooms. This special centerpiece weighs 948 grams or 30.5 ozs. Troy and is 16 1/2 : across the handles, 12 1/2" bowl length, 7" bowl width, 7" tall to the top of each squirrel, and 4 3.4" tall to the bowl edge. German 800 standard silver three piece coffee set in a Baroque style, made in Föhr Germany, c.1870. Each piece of this unusual and ornate set has a Laurel leaf and berry wreath on each side containing a block letter monogram K under a nine pointed crown. A Royal connection is likely with this set, as a Crown monogram was not casually used. Such a designation was reserved for Royalty. All the pieces have beaded borders and handles with large Acanthus leaf sockets. The pot has an Acanthus leaf spout and a removable cast Blossom and large decorated ring finial. The set consists of:

  • Creamer 6" tall 261 grams
  • Open Sugar Bowl 5" tall 267 grams

American sterling silver Art Nouveau large vase in the Secret of the Flowers pattern by Unger Brothers. This vase was created in the year that the pattern was first introduced, 1904. This visually stunning, high relief design vase features four panels of the lovely Unger Lady rising from the flowers and reaching for the blossoms above her lovely outstretched hands. The areas above her hands are reserves, one of which is inscribed: Woman′s Choral Club Apr 29 - 04, another is monogrammed in ornate, period script: KBP. The other two reserves are blank. The large, fluted top ornate body rests upon an elongated, pedestal base decorated with applied conforming flowers. Likely the best example of Art Nouveau we have ever seen, it justifies the reputation Unger has for fine quality work and is sure to please the most discriminating collector. This large attractive bowl has an applied floral die rolled rim and it sits on a large pedestal foot with a crescent die rolled rim. The bowl rim has a partial maker′s mark, which appears to be either an E or an F and a K with a device, possibly a leopard′s head, in between. We do not recall ever seeing a maker′s mark on an applied part on American silver. It is common on English silver. This spectacular bowl is 8 3/4" in diameter for the bowl, 5 1/2" in diamete3r for the base, 7 5/8" tall and weighs 612 grams or 19.6 ozs. Troy. The bowl has an ornate, period monogram: EH.
