Spectacular ice bucket in the form of a wishing well. complete with a block and tackle bucket hoist. The inside of the well is fully gilt and has its original footed, gilt drain pan. The shot sized bucket would have been filled with vodka and lowered into the ice to keep its contents cold.
The body of the well has upper and lower bulbous bands of engraved snowflakes set on lined backgrounds, with the bands surrounding a brickwork center. It all sits on a wide gadroon base.
The block and tackle bucket winch is attached to a fancy gadroon frame, with the silver bucket chain being secured to a hook on the side of the beaded rim of the well body.
The bottom of the well and the top of the drain pan are marked F.C (in an oval) 39 MI (in an elongated hexagon) and 800. The marks date the piece from 1944- 1967. However, the little bucket on the chain has the 39 MI mark with the star, indicating a production date of 1968. The piece was likely made during the time period when the marks were changed, 1967 - 1968
