Medallion Mask Handle Sugar Bowl Wood Hughes Coin Silver 1865 No Monograms

American coin silver open sugar bowl in a double Medallion pattern by Wood and Hughes Silversmiths of New York City, c. 1860 - 1870. This spectacular, large, mask handle bowl has two high relief applied Socrates Medallions surrounded by Repousse floral and chased scroll and shell decorations. Th top rim and stepped base have finely milled borders. Weighing 313 grams or 10 ozs. Troy, this impressive bowl is 3 3/4" tall, 5" in diameter and 7 3/4" across the handles. The soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing. The excellent original condition and clear, crisp detail, with no monograms, removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
