.Floral Scroll Open Work Tray 833 Silver Mahogany 1920

code: wb3356

833 standard silver and Mahogany open work floral and scroll tray, c.1920. This beauty is a little hard to pin down as to its origin, as it is only marked SILVER and 833. The only two countries of which we are aware of using the 833 standard are The Netherlands and Portugal. It seems reasonable that this lovely tray was made in one of their colonial possessions to the standard of the Colonial power. Our best guess would be The Netherlands, as the piece has a Dutch look to it and the Mahogany would have been readily available in Indonesia. The wood has an unusual raised grain and is quite attractive. Weighing, wood and silver, 229 grams, this special dresser, vanity or small serving oval tray is 9 3/4" long and 6 3/4" wide. The soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
