Beautiful hand hammered braserillo made of fine Spanish colonial silver, c. 1830. A braserillo (also called a chofeta or brazier) was a fashionable household smoking accessory in Spain and Spanish colonies throughout the 1800′s. An ember is removed from the fireplace or stove, then placed in the ember bowl so that it can be passed around to light cigars or pipes without burning the rug or table. An exceptional pair of Norwegian Viking Longboat salt cellars in sterling silver, with liners and matching oar spoons, c. 1960. This beautiful sterling baby cup is a unique treasure because of the date inscribed and the applied four leaf clovers. Made by Shreve & Co, of San Francisco prior to the San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906, it was a baptismal gift to "Francis Ryder Hannify" on November 28, 1906, just seven months after the fateful day. Inscribed ′Barnard′s Inn/[family crest]′ and ′Johannes Baines. Arm. Prin./D. D/MDCCCXXII′ (1822). 19.6 oz.T., 5 x 7.5 x 3.75in. Barnard′s Inn is located in Holborn, London. Ornate sterling silver ink blotter made in Hanau Germany, c.1890, probably by the firm Wolf and Knell. The touch marks are listed as unidentified on the Silvercollection.it website and as possibly Wolf and Knell on 925-100.com. We are fortunate to have 2 of these blotters. The other blotter has the touchmarks of the Hanau firm of Vereinigte Silberwarenfabriken, formed by the merger of Wolf and Knell with Gebrüder Glasser. The two are identical, save that the blotter listed here is slightly larger, an indication that the Vereinigte blotter is likely a cast copy of the older Wolf & Knell blotter. While this is not positive proof, it is a good indication that the Pseudo marks are those of Wolf & Knell. This interesting blotter has musicians on one side and a lady pouring water from a jug on the other, with all of the participants being surrounded by scroll, floral and foliate decorations. The knob handle has matching ornate scroll, floral and foliate decorations. The blotter is 4 3/4" long, 2 3/4" wide, 3 1/2" tall and weighs a total of 203 grams or 6.5 ozs. Troy. Homer (6th Artillery US) on the ocassion of the mustering out of the 2nd Mississippi Regiment at Columbia Tennesse december (20) 1898. The names of all 12 Captains of Companies A through L are engraved in one cartouche, with the presentation to Captain Homer in the other cartouche.
