English sterling silver stuffing spoon in a wonderfully executed bright cut pattern by Hester Bateman having a full set of London Hallmarks for 1784. With no duty mark, dates from May 1 - Nov 30.
This very desirable example of Bateman's work has an ornate, contemporary script monogram within the shield shaped cartouche created by the bright cut design: DH. The bowl has a long drop ad the handle is down turned, with the marks being extremely well struck.
This very special stuffing spoon is 12" long and weighs 121 grams or 3.9 ozs. Troy.
The elegant bright cut design is in excellent condition and the bowl has wonderful definition.
Monogrammed as described above, the soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.

Antique English sterling silver stuffing spoon by Thomas Chawner, London. Inscribed "TRIA JUNCTA IN UNO" inside a circle in ornate period script. The device of three crowns, staff, rose and thistle encircled with the motto, 'TRIA IUNCTA IN UNO'('three joined in one') refers to the united kingdoms of England, Scotland and Ireland. The Order was established on its present basis in 1725. Inscribed 4:14" on the bottom of the shank. C.1780 .
