Aesthetic Bird Insect Floral Napkin Ring, American coin silver, c.1870, likely by John R. Wendt.
This special napkin ring features a wide band of Aesthetic decoration with three birds perched on Dogwood branches, one bird having snake in its bill, a large butterfly, stylized floral and foliate embellishments and three Dogwood blossoms in a large Greek Urn, all on a stippled background. There is an applied beaded border under each rolled rim.
Weighing a substantial 39 grams or 1.25 ozs. Troy, this impressive napkin ring is 1 7/8" in diameter and 1 1/4" tall.
There is an applied, elongated shield with a period inscription GUY.
Inscribed as described above, the soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
The excellent original condition and clear detail, with no removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
