American coin silver rope border napkin ring, 1861.
This most unusual and quite large Civil War era napkin ring has applied, twisted rope borders on a tapered body with bands of wriggle work engraving.
It is monogrammed G. J. on one side and 1861 on the other.
Likely made by a recently arrived silversmith, the napkin ring is unmarked but guaranteed to be as represented.
Weighing a substantial 50 grams or 1.6 ozs. Troy, this special napkin ring is 2 3/8" in diameter and 1 3/8" tall.
Monogrammed and inscribed as described above, the soft, warm, original antique finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
The excellent original condition and clear, crisp detail, with no removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
This special napkin is made even more so by the presence of a mate with the same date and a C. J. monogram.
