American sterling silver two handled presentation loving cup in an applied grape and vine pattern by Bailey, Banks and Biddle of Philadelphia, made for them by Simons, Brothers and Company of the same city. This exquisite, impressive loving cup was presented to the Dean of the University of Pennsylvania Medical Department, Dr. John Marshall, by the faculty for ten years of faithful service and has the names of the faculty inscribed under the base. The applied grape decorations are nicely detailed as are the grape vine handles. The interior is gilt and the reeded edge scalloped rim add a nice touch. English sterling silver Cellini pattern Claret Jug by George Fox, having a full set of London Hallmarks for 1876. It is of classical Renaissance Revival ewer form, chased throughout with strapwork, mask heads, arabesques, animals and foliage against a matt ground, with a sculptural caryatid scroll handle, engraved with double crests, one of a crown with a raised wreathed arm holding a flag, the other an armed fist holding a dagger. Dutch 833 standard silver dessert set for 12 in a fitted locking box having its original key, date marked for 1895 and maker;′s mark: DO over 2. Each of the 12 three tined forks is 7 3/16" long, with the 12 weighing a total of 481 grams. Each of the 12 oval spoons is 7 5/16" long, with the 12 weighing a total of 469 grams. The total silver weight is 950 grams or 30.6 ozs. Troy. The fitted box is lined in plush blue velvet and has the retailer′s mark inside the lid. This very special tray has an applied open work border of floral and scroll decoration and a scroll cut work body with an ornate, period script monogram LFW. American sterling silver open salt dishes and pepper shakers, 4 sets, in a spectacular, over-the-top Renaissance Revival style pattern by Gorham Silversmiths, special order marks 8586 and 8587, c.1900 and were retailed by Theodore B. Starr of New York City. These oval open salts have 4 lion masks on the body and scrolling rims. The bodies have ball and bracket borders under the rims and Repousse floral and scroll decorations with panels of square ended lined spatulate decorations on the under bodies, separated by rising foliate panels. The conforming pedestal bases have scroll and foliate decorations and rest on Acanthus leaf and scroll feet. The pepper shakers have decorations conforming with the salts and flower urns on their bodies and conforming round pedestal bases. The lids have pierced dome tops with urn finials and wide scroll skirts. Each open salt is 3 1/4" long, 2 7/8" wide, 2" tall and the four weigh 500 grams. Each pepper shaker is 5 3/4" tall, 2 3/4" in diameter and the four weigh a total of 647 grams. Total silver weight is 1147 grams or 36.9 ozs. Troy. Each piece has two scroll bordered reserves, one blank and one containing an ornate period script monogram: N. Finnish 813 standard silver chambersticks, pair, in the Louis XVI style, maker′s mark FVL, Town mark for Helsinki, date marked or 1899. These very special square based chambersticks have fluted stems and cups, with the bases having milled edges with beaded borders with floral decorations. The removable bobeches have swirling beaded and fluted rims and are fully marked. Each chamberstick has a heavy ring handle with a spurred thumbpiece and straight bottom spur. The mounting sockets conform to the thumbpiece. Their condition is superb, with no problems of any kind. Weighing a total of 409 grams or 13.1 ozs. French 950 sterling silver figural open salts. c.1819 - 1838 having all the proper marks, including the silver guarantee, assay, and bigorne marks. The bigorne mark is opposite of the assay mark. The maker′s mark, a very distinctive C A with a rampant lion in between and a star above, could not be identified. each of these very special open salts has 3 harp playing cherubs riding lions on foliate ground with an upper band of pierced top grape bunches. The rims have spade and dart decorations and the glass inserts, although likely replacements. fit and work well.
