Ornate Coin Silver Trophy Cup San Francisco 1890

.Ornate Coin Silver Trophy Cup San Francisco 1890

code: r10945

American coin silver trophy cup or goblet marked A. L. Ott San Francisco, CA.

Ott was a long established manufacturing jeweler who most likely did not make the trophy. It was likely made by Vanderslice, as Schulz and Fischer was done by 1883 and that would be likely too early for Ott.

The trophy features a Laurel Wreath, embellished scroll and medallion cartouche surrounding the Great Seal of California on one side of the body, with a blank cartouche having a baroque scroll border. The cartouche is not inscribed, but it has a monogram removal that, surprisingly did not weaken the thick wall of the body. The blank cartouche has a textured surface that is not unattractive. Of course, it would have been desirable to have the original inscription, but is still an interesting piece, well worth owning. The undulating base has applied acorns and oak leaves.

Weighing an impressive 325 grams or 10.5 ozs. Troy, this unusual bit of early San Francisco is 8 1/4" tall, 4 1/4" in diameter (base), and 4 3/4" in diameter (cup)
