English sterling silver child′s mug or Christening cup by William Ker(r) Reid of Newcastle, with a full set of London Hallmarks for 1851. This lovely Repousse floral mug sits on an ornate, foliate circular, shaped base and has a double reverse C scroll handle. William Ker(r) Reid Son of Christian Ker-Reid (of Newcastle) free by redemption 2 November 1814. First mark entered as plateworker, in partnership with Joseph Cradock (q.v.) 8 June 1812. Address: 67 Leather Lane. Moved before 19 August 1819, to 3 Carey Street, Lincoln′s Inn Fields. Second mark (two sizes), 19 August 1819. Third mark, 24 September 1824. Fourth mark alone as plateworker, 8 November 1825. Address: 5 Bream′s Buildings, Chancery Lane. Fifth mark, 21 February 1826. Sixth (three sizes), 3 May 1828. Elected Livery, April 1818. His son William Ker Jr., was apprenticed to him 1846, and another Edward, Free by patrimony 1844. William Sr died 1 February 1868. The front of the mug has an ornate Repousse scroll and foliate cartouche containing the ornate, period script monogram: EB. Weighing 139 grams or 4.5 ozs. Troy, this elegant and very desirable mug is 3 5/8" tall, 2 3/4" in diameter and 4" across the handle. English sterling silver open salts pair by Robert Hennell II, each having a full set of London Hallmarks for 1833. Reminiscent of salts made 100 years earlier by Paul de Lamerie, each of these magnificent salts has a body with applied Acanthus leaves having chased and engraved shell and scroll decorations in between. These ornate bodies sit on conforming acanthus leaf circular base and have scalloped edge Gadroon rims. Each is graced with a well executed Crown Lion surmounted crest, as pictured. Certainly no one can fault Hennell for getting inspiration for his design for these salts from Paul de Lamerie regarded by the Victoria and Albert Museum as the greatest Silversmith of all time. Each of these special salts is 2 1/4" tall, 3 3/4" in diameter and the pair weigh a substantial 419 grams or 13.5 ozs. Troy. English sterling silver and whalebone Toddy ladle, c.1770. A nice Toddy ladle with a 1762 1/4 Guinea Love Token gold coin mounted in the center of the cauldron shaped bowl. The back of the strap handle is monogrammed in period block letters: B over W*S. The twist handle is in excellent condition, with the original silver tip present. There is the ubiquitous old repair where the handle mounts to the bowl. The 1/4 Guinea is a scarce gold coin, only being minted in 1718 and 1762 and was valued at the time @ 5 Shillings and 3 Pence. 5s 3d from 1762 is worth £30.60 using the retail price index £417.00 using average earnings. This interesting Toddy ladle is 13 1/2" long and weighs 42 grams or 1.4 ozs. Troy.

Henry Chawner was one of the earliest, and most prolific British silversmiths of the 1700′s. This exquisite 218 year old coffee pot, with ebony handle, is a magnificent example of the enduring quality and fine craftmanship that made him famous. It was impeccably made by hand in London, c. 1793 and bears all appropriate date, city and maker hallmarks. It features a handsome pedestal base and lovely domed lid topped with an elegant finial.
