English sterling silver tea urn in a Rococo style by Elizabeth Godfrey, bearing 2 full sets of London Hallmarks for 1761 plus a Lion Passant and date letter, f, on the lid.
This scarce and desirable product of a notable English woman silversmith has a large bellied body with figural shell mask handles and an applied fluted top rim. The striking base has conforming swing handles, a gadroon decorated square base having a fluted crown collar. All four of the handles have their original wooden inserts and the tap handle is carved wood. The spout has a fluted socket and a griffon head. The lid has a fluted collar and an urn finial.
Weighing an impressive 83.15 ozs. Troy, this formidable tea urn is 17 3/4" tall, 10 5/8" across the handles and 9 1/2" across the spout.
One of the handle inserts on the base has losses.
